T-Pain Sang Without Auto-Tune

T-Pain: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

This week the internet community took a collective moment to exclaim “Whaaaaaaat the hell!!!!” T-Pain performs without auto-tune. That’s right Mr Teddy Penderazdoun aka Teddy Verseti, aka Teddy Pain the loverman took to the mic accompanied by a smooth too cool for school key board player in a small room with an intimate crown and actually sang without his trademark auto-tune sound.
Now this was nothing like that horrendous live performance of Future when he was on stage with Kelly Rowland and she kept looking at him sideways like what did she get herself into and he was making a sound like a cat getting raped by a stallion. T-pain may not be the best singer in the world but he’s certainly far from the worst and it was widely known for years he could actually blow, so it begs the questions when he finally decided to step away from the producers booth to artist why the extra artistry? What’s the deal with the auto-tune and the silly hats? Was this merely an attempt to create his own lane in the industry so to speak? He did seem to spawn a whole gang of bandwagon jumpers, some jumped on and failed miserably to maintain anything resembling a career. Was it that he was just having fun with being an artist and not taking it or himself too seriously? Could it be that in a world of “pretty boy” R&B artist, again T-Pain dared to be different?
Will he now release an album with his greatest hits, just him and the keyboard dude? I’d get it, despite being the Ratchet King of Hip Hop/R&B his music is entertaining, music about strippers and bitches that love to drink… shiiiiiit what’s not to like!!

So bottom line, T-pain showed the world he could actually sing without the auto-tune, just imagine if he issued a challenge to other “signers” to do the same, that would be hilarious. Maybe he should issue a challenge to Keyshia Cole to use it with her off-key signing ass
