Colin Kaepernick takes a stand not to stand
It is very rare that I touch these types of subjects. But something has troubled me about this ever since it first hit the news. Now first let me say I fully support Colin Kaepernick’s stance. In American sports leagues dominated by black athletes, it’s really sad so few actually stand for anything beyond their paycheck and their admirable tax write-off charities aka their “givebacks“.
Recently my physical therapist told me she can’t stand Lebron James because he has Cleveland on his back but stayed silent when Tamir Rice was murdered by police. Now I’m not sure exactly what King James was meant to do. Cleveland is his city indeed. He did wear the “I can’t breathe” tee-shirt for Eric Garner in New York, but she entitled to her opinion.
Now the entire story goes like this on Friday the 26th of August before a preseason game, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick refused to stand for the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” When questioned he explained why, but he only spoke about the present:
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. … There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
Almost on cue Twitter then went balls out completely nuts. With at least one 49ers fan burning Kaepernick’s jersey. This jersey burning made the news. Was it a completely slow news day? Did this idiot not pay for the jersey? So burning it serves what point? Apart from this asshat burning his jersey a whole bunch of other folks decided to display their utter ignorance and spew nothing but vile racist comments, hurling “nigger” around with more arm than Kaepernick himself.
Now here is what I take issue with since his comments and the comments proving his point…. why is the focus on the asshats? All I have seen on social media platforms and the news is a narrative and keen focus on the racist with a brief mention of people in support of Colin Kaepernick.
Change the narrative
So here’s a suggestion, people! Change the fucking narrative! Let’s focus on the people standing with Colin Kaepernick. let’s give shine to the folks who get that in this great nation. The ability to not only exercise your right to freedom of speech. But also, your freedom of expression can stand for something. Here’s the thing are they racist in America?… fuck yes! Is there systematic racism, bigotry, and prejudice in America…. fuck yes!! Are thousands of people in this country hypocritically blind to the issues in the black and other minority communities… hell yes!!
Now, why do these people get the focus! What would happen if we collectively ignored the racist scum buckets who post their disgusting vile bullshit, what if every post and repost made to social media was only the positive stories, instead of posting the bullshit, Jim Harbaugh spewed or the total assery that no mustache having cunt Allen B. West wrote. Why not focus on the Jim Wrights and others. The ranting and opinion of an ignored bully, especially online is like a fart in a hurricane… Change is possible.
