RIP Robin Williams
RIP Robin Williams
I was not going to post about the death of Robin Williams, mainly due to the fact that he killed himself. i have no respect for people who comment suicide, bottom line. It rather irked me that out pouring of sympathy for a virtual stranger who just happened to entertain us through the medium of film and television and a few others, the stage. This attachment to “celebrity” is really getting out of hand. One the one hand I do get it, but when I see people visibly broken over the death of someone, even going on to call it a tragedy it’s sometimes makes me wonder how empty is your life? All the stories coming out about his bouts with addiction and depression, just made me think, you’re a gawd damn millionaire, you can afford to pay for the best treatments and therapy, give me a break.
When Michael Jackson was murdered by his highly irresponsible doctor, I was on the mental wave length of damn a legend is gone, but his music will live on, so it’s not really that big a deal and if I am honest for the last decade, he has been looked at as more of a freak than the king of pop. One of the things that really irked me about Robin’s apparent suicide is the fact that he had recovered from a massive heart attack. Not being religious I don’t harp on about miracles and that type of bullshit. But as someone who almost drowned twice, the value of for life is re-evaluated when something so near death happens. Well at least that is my opinion. Having grown up in the era of the Gramoxone drinkers from a young age watching people toss away their, one shot at life over sometimes, something as simple as getting horned, it made me see them as cheaters and weak. I mean for fuck sake, plenty of other women out their and you kill yourself over one piece a condense punani really?
Anyway before I go any further I should say, I only find it acceptable to commit suicide in certain circumstances. One major one being, if that person is terminally ill. At that point I think a person can choose that option, rather than prolong the inevitable and become a burden to themselves and others. So when I heard the update from Robin William’s wife about the onset of Parkinson’s disease, I though to myself, hmmmm maybe that is why he made such a hash job of the wrist slitting. But clearly other people not only celebrities have to love with Parkinson’s disease, Michael J Fox has become the most recent poster child for the condition. I guess in his mind, he was not willing to burden his wife, could not cope, saw two ways out and took them.
So RIP Robin Williams, you were a great comedian and entertainer, you’re weird dial-up of black characters always left me on the fence of if it’s funny or you’re racist, but that doesn’t matter now.
