V V Brown – Sacrifice
V V Brown – Sacrifice
Came across this British artist VV brown’s new official music video on my Facebook timeline, apparently the video is causing a little bit of a stir as did the Beyonce’s single Formation and Superbowl performance. I am very much unfamiliar with this British signer / artist and her music but I found it refreshing to see a British artist actually take a stance against the nonsense which, not only goes on in our society with the police brutality and general abuse of power etc but also the self-hate in our communities, the conformity of women of color to something other than self, this element of bleaching and the weaves colored contacts. It is indeed a Sacrifice to sell your own race out, be something you’re not, but even weirder than doing it under necessity, it’s doing it and convincing others it’s the right thing to do! But it’s awesome to see the increasing “Negropean” standard of beauty by our black sistas finally being address, well not so “finally”, it’s been an increasing topic more in conversation on the black blogs and natural hair sistas communities groups / sites, but I fear it’s still a long way away from the 70ties type revolution of Afro, dreads, braids and pumped single fist with the loud proud chants of “I’m black and I’m proud“.
Back in the day I attended the function billed as the 10,000 man march in Trafalgar Square in London Uk, I was so damn disappointed to see more black folks on Tottenham Court Road & Oxford Circus shopping for goodies rather than participating in change in the community, it was on that day I vowed never again in the UK would I take part in such things being from Barbados and living there if the born and raised could not give two shits about it.
Good to see someone stepping up to the plate on a media such as this, hopefully it makes some wake up!!
