Arsenal take victory against Leicester City
Today is a glorious day so far with a sea of red and white around the world on this Valentine’s day, the only Red and White that really mattered on this day were the gunners who took to the pitch at the Emirates Stadium. In all honesty I had completely forgotten that today’s game had such an early start here in the US, on my way to work, I get an alert on my phone from the one person I knew would be keenly watching this match with peaked interest. His message a short one, but delivered with nefarious intentions, the words:
Patiently waiting…
A phrase I often use myself while waiting for the IOC to finally do their job and find that dope horse 100 meter sprinter guilty of using performance enhancements, but that’s another subject for another day. After reading this loathsome, heinous, abhorrent…… Ok ok lol it wasn’t all that, just some light amigo banter but that down right egregious statement in my head made me think one thing to myself…. Game on!! C’mon you Gunners!!
Got to the place which provides the funds to keep the bill collectors off my back, set up the workstation, made sure all those job priorities were set in place first then flipped out the trusty tablet and onto NBCsports for live coverage of my beloved team Arsenal giving it to Leicester City, a team that again if I am honest I admire their spirit this season. But admiration aside today was about defeat for them, taking a pick from their growing league lead points, hauling them back to a more familiar place in this here Barclays premier league.
Tuned in to the game, just in time to see a Leicester City goal, well penalty, gutted!! I mean come on why is this the first thing I have to see? In my mind, I see my boy grinning from ear to ear, rubbing his hands together Monty Burns style, pleased as punch. So I scrolled back through the video feed, saw a barrage of no calls for fouls committed against Arsenal and all the calls for minor things going the way of Leicester City, including the damn penalty which that wanker Jamie Vardy played so well he deserves a BAFTA.
Second half Arsenal show more intent to take the win, crispy passing with determined direction, nine minutes later finally a call going Arsenal’s way red card for Simpson, good-bye sir!! One goal down against a team with a man short time to gravy the biscuits. Leicester City sub on Wasilewski a player that’s built like he should be fighting with Vikings or playing rugby. Few more plays and increased energy between Ozil and Sanchez on comes the boy come man Theo Theo Theo, the 10 year Arsenal veteran, who no doubt can only still grow in stature and really has become more hungry after the birth of his son. He takes the field, yelling at players giving direction like he has the armband, the team keep pressing, silky smooth passes as usual then blam the onion bag shakes internally 1-1… Game on!
Now it’s my turn to do the Monty Burns hand rubbing, watching my team increase the pressure and then like a phoenix emerging from the rebirth flames on the sidelines stands the one Danny Welbeck. Yes in the past I have talked shit about this player and I still don’t think he is the premium striker Arsenal needs, but he’s a gunner and I respect that. 90 minutes played, 4 minutes stoppage time, it’s now of never, 93 minutes played and what will be the final attack of Arsenal thwarted by the guy that should be a NFL linebacker, clumpsy tackle, freekick, delivered with delicious panache, someone in the crown which is picked up by NBC’s mics yell on yer head lad, guess Daddy heard him, because there was nothing Kasper Schmeichel could do to stop the venomous penetration of his goal mouth 2-1 Arsenal take victory against Leicester City.
What a come back for Danny Welbeck……
A few takeaways from this game, Arron Ramsey, great player but he needs to spend some time on the bench to rediscover his form, I think the new signing should start in his place and share sub time. Ramsey pops up with too many opportunities and he does not take advantage of them. Will this victory raise the confidence going into this schedule even helping them in Champions League? I hope so! Will Arsenal now go on to win the league with 12 games left…. Bet your ass we will!! COYG
