What the hell ever happened to the true sense of competition in sports? What has happened to the concept of “Trill of Victory, Agony of defeat“? What ever happen to you win some you lose some but you survived to fight another day?
When did America become some Charmin toilet paper soft they decided a whole new generation of kids would be raised with no concept of lose or true competition? What is this baby-mitts aka kids gloves agenda? I don’t understand this at all having grown up with clear concept of loosing games, being taunted, teased and ridiculed, but even now that’s frowned on. It’s considered unsportsmanlike even bullying. How on earth do we build better athletes with the kids of tomorrow if this ugly fade continues? How do these kids learn to bounce back and have the drive and determination to strive for better? How do they learn to triumph over adversity? What does a child actually learn when they are mediocre at best, while talented players are all judged at the same level when receiving a participation trophies?
This was a topic of discussion I had many moons ago before I saw this awesome Kia Sorento commercial.
After a football awards ceremony, a proud father is surprised to see his son received a participation trophy. He decides to take matters into his own hands before getting into the vehicle and congratulating his son on an undefeated season.
What makes this commercial awesome? The father is asking himself all the right questions, his son’s team is undefeated, beating all teams brought before them, making them champions, not participants, not runners-up, champions, that is how this thing works. Rightly so he strips off that silly participation trophy nonsense and presents his son with what he really is a champion.
America please stop listening to these pansy ass new age thinkers when it comes to raising kids, that will run this world one day. We did not survive centuries of evolution, fighting and WINNING only to become soft ass participants!!
